Balades is a series of paintings created over the course of several months in early 2026.​ For many years, I painted places I happened to pass through, especially Old Hull, the neighbourhood where I live. After a long period of questioning, during which inspiration seemed to have left me, a series of encounters rekindled my desire to create. Those encounters, however, were not with people—they were with places.

For a long time, I described myself as contemplative. Eventually, I realized it was something deeper than that. What I had called contemplation was, in fact, a willingness to give time to the places around me—to slow down and listen when they had something beautiful to reveal.

Through these encounters, I came to better understand the way I look at the places I paint. The works in Balades are an invitation to experience some of those moments with me and the emotions they awakened.
